For once, I have a reason for my absence on this blog
Tomorrow this blog will join a lot of the Internet in strike against SOPA (and PIPA in the Senate).
If you happen by on the 18th, you will be automatically redirected to the SOPA Strike site. Please watch the short video below for some of the reasons why these Acts are bad for both our country and the world as a whole.

Site issues
We're going through some site-code updates/housecleaning at the moment. All will return to normal shortly.
I hope.
UPDATE: Everything's working the way I want, other than the massive space in the first post on the page. I have no idea why it's like that, but I'm working on it.

New Blood
Just to prove that this little blog o' mine is still ticking, I decided to make a post. Genie Junkie and I have neglected Garm Howling for quite awhile, but hopefully that will change in the future. Recently I thought about this minuscule corner of cyberspace and wondered if I should create some new content. Fortuitously, my fiancée Kat mentioned that she'd like to start her own blog. I pounced on the opportunity and (short story, long) now she's going to cross-post here and at her own place: A Little Bit of This, A Little Bit of That.
So we have some new blood and soon, Cthulhu-willing, some new content as well.

Happy Thanksgiving
No new content today folks; there's much eating and watching of football to be done. Ya'll have a good day.

Outage
Sorry for the lack of posts over the last couple of days (a video doesn't count); genie and I were busy yesterday and my ISP suffered a temporary outage that lasted from last night until this afternoon sometime. Posting will resume as scheduled as soon as I catch up with the mass of email, RSS-delivered articles, and missed regular website reading. Unreal how much stuff one misses online when there is no online.
Also, during the outage, I discovered this whole "outside" thing. Why was I not informed earlier? Now I have what one of my newly-discovered "neigh-bors" calls a "sun-burn." She looked at me funny and shooed her kids away when I inquired further into this "sun" business. Of course, now my net's back up and I'm able to find all my answers on Wikipedia. Thankfully, there is no need for that messy and social-interaction-generating (shudder) "outside" again, at least until my ISP fails me again.

Sorry
Just wanted to let everyone know that I'll get back to posting on a regular basis as soon as possible. There are some pretty serious things going on in my personal life that need to be addressed and that take priority over my little corner of the 'net.

Site Stuff
Posting will most likely be nonexistent today; I have a large family get-together all day and won't be near a computer. Hopefully I'll be able to get behind the keyboard later this evening, but I'm not making any promises.
Also, I made a break with Blogger's commenting system, so if you're looking for a post with comments, you won't find any. Sorry, but using Haloscan to handle everything is both easier and more efficient.
Hope ya'll are having a good holiday weekend.

Done (More or Less)
OK, that's it, I'm done with the big site upgrade. The new Blogger code is pretty different than the old version, so it took some time to find my way around. All the tweaking to the template is done, with the one exception of Haloscan Trackback. Haloscan makes it easy to do comments & trackback, but I just want Trackback, which I'm still working on (and Haloscan ain't making that easy).
There'sstill a font issue under Linux, but it's very minor been fixed/is a client issue. Testing IE6, IE7, Firefox, and Opera running under XP revealed no issues. Again, no Mac/Safari to test.
As to the "new" Blogger system. . . I gotta say that I like it. Having built-in categories (Blogger calls them "Labels") is nice (less code to load/work with), the Archiving system is pretty sweet, and best of all, no more Endlessly Rotating Triangle of Publishing Death ("Old Blogger" users know what I'm talking about). Plus the backend is a bit easier to work with. Gotta love instant changes to template/widgets/etc.
I guess I'm happy with it. Now if I can just, y'know, keep publishing new stuff. . .

Almost done
Did a few more things in between walking the dog and eating dinner, but I still have some features to add/upgrade. All the categories are up and all posts are labeled. All the colors/fonts are the way I want them (except one). No Trackback yet, although that's more because installing the peek-a-boo comments is a pain, at least on a custom template. If it wasn't for that, trackback would be up now.
I tested in IE6, IE7, Firefox, and Opera under WinXP, and Firefox under Kubuntu Linux, and everything seems to be working fine, other than a minor font issue under Linux, which isn't worth worrying about right now. Didn't test Mac/Safari, as I don't have 'em, but it shouldn't matter.
Hopefully I'll be done with upgrading this place soon, so I can go back to ignoring it.

Still Building
OK, I worked on this place for a bit this evening, and all the basic stuff is up. Now I just have to tweak everything around (colors, fonts, getting my peek-a-boo comments back, trackback, etc.) so it looks right and has the functionality we want. I might get to it later tonight, but more likely it'll happen tomorrow.

Maintenance
I'm working on the site, so bear with me. I don't know why I'm doing so, since I barely have the time or desire to actually browse the Internet, much less comment on the things I find there. What can I say; I like things to be tidy. So I'm going to work on some Blogger-to-Blogger2 migration issues, including doing away with my del.icio.us category system, which takes time, as I have to set some things up manually. So anyway, I'll get everything cleaned up and hopefully start posting again.
I ain't making any promises though.

Apparently, sometime in my two-month absence my del.icio.us tagging system went screwy. I'll fix it later, but for now, be warned.
As if anyone cares, or for that matter, reads this tripe, but hey, I'm anal-retentive about this stuff.

OK, I'm back (again for like the 8th time)
Yeah, another unexplained absence. Sue me. Wait, no, don't sue me; I'm broke. Suing me would waste the time and money of everyone involved and the judge would laugh at you after seeing my financial records. Seriously though, sorry for the extended absence; it was unintended and unavoidable. Besides, let's face it: this a pretty low traffic site (I don't do it for that reason) and sometimes life gets a little large and some priorities have to pushed to the side a bit. Hopefully I'll be around awhile this time. If (when) an absence must occur again, I'll endeavor to learn some manners and let y'all know.
In the interest of fostering those manners, I suppose I should let loose the reason for my internet vanishing act:
If you have a dog with a proclivity to make HALO jumps into the lap of his doting master while said master is sleeping or otherwise unaware and unprepared for the impending canine Fallschirmjäger assault, for all that is holy in this world, keep his frightfully, unaccountably sharp nails trimmed and buffed into slightly-less-painful dullness. Otherwise, you might find yourself curled into the fetal position on your bathroom floor clutching a handful of paper towels and a bottle of hydrogen peroxide in white-knuckled hands, all the while petitioning JesusAllahBuddha for sweet death to take you away from the alternating waves of nausea, the sharp, tearing pain, and the sight of what is rapidly becoming a blood-covered crotch.
Just an FYI.

Technical Difficulties
Don't you hate it when you're gone for the weekend, return home, and find that your cable tv/internet is out? Yeah, so do I. Posting to resume as normal now that everything's fixed.

Gone Fishin'
On a deadline, so very light to no posting today. Hopefully I'll get some things posted, but I don't know yet.
